On January 16, 2016, the U.S. and major allies lifted sanctions on Iran under negotiated terms of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran, said to “verifiably prevent I  vran from acquiring a nuclear weapon”. Because the U.S. continues to enforce sanctions on Iran, U.S. companies are still very limited in their ability to do business there.
